First CBS Radio Broadcast
Since 1922, The Cleveland Orchestra had been heard over the air waves, on broadcasts national and local. On Easter Sunday in 1957, the Orchestra was heard for the first time over a coast-to-coast network broadcast of the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS). During the 1957/58 season, the Orchestra offered twenty Saturday evening broadcasts, carried by seventy-nine stations in all parts of the country, sponsored by Cleveland’s radio station WGAR and relayed nation-wide by CBS.
