Orchestra looks forward to returning in 2022

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Orchestra announced today the cancellation of its scheduled 2021 Miami residency in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County due to the continuing coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic. The cancellations include four performances at Knight Concert Hall scheduled for January 2021, prelude concerts, and all related education presentations and activities.

“The ongoing and evolving crises of recent months has affected all of us and challenged everyone to address what is truly an unprecedented level of uncertainty for the future” said André Gremillet, President & CEO of The Cleveland Orchestra. “In light of the current circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Orchestra’s residency in Miami in January 2021. This cancellation is for The Cleveland Orchestra concerts presented in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, due to the highly likely inability for the Orchestra to travel to South Florida in January. While we are deeply disappointed The Cleveland Orchestra won’t be performing in Miami this coming season, I am glad to share that our subscribers and donors will be able to stay connected with the Orchestra directly from their homes through a series of digitally-streamed live concerts from Severance Hall in Cleveland. As a special thank you for their support, subscribers and donors will receive free access to these streamed concerts. Details about this series of Cleveland Orchestra concerts and how to access them digitally will be shared in September.”

The Cleveland Orchestra is planning to return to Miami in January 2022 to resume its longstanding partnership with the Arsht Center and serve our loyal patrons in South Florida. In the meanwhile, we look forward to sharing our music online with our South Florida audience, as during these troubled times, our music is needed more than ever.

About The Cleveland Orchestra in Miami
The Cleveland Orchestra’s Miami residency was launched in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center in January 2007 during the Center’s inaugural season. Over the course of 14 seasons, The Cleveland Orchestra has served the Miami-Dade community with an array of musical presentations, including a series of subscription concerts, education programs, and community engagement activities. The Cleveland Orchestra’s Miami residency is supported through the generosity of music-lovers from across South Florida who believe in the power of great orchestral music for adults and young people alike. Each season of The Cleveland Orchestra’s Miami concerts is presented in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

Under the leadership of Music Director Franz Welser-Möst, The Cleveland Orchestra has become one of the most sought-after performing ensembles in the world, setting standards of extraordinary artistic excellence, creative music-making, and community programming.  The New York Times has declared it “the best in America,” “one of the finest ensembles in the country (if not the world),” and “America’s most understatedly amazing orchestra” for the group’s virtuosity, humility, self-confidence, elegance of sound, variety of color, and chamber-like musical cohesion.  Having celebrated its 100th birthday year in 2018, The Cleveland Orchestra is making its mark as a decidedly 21st-century ensemble, dedicated to serving its hometown and the art of music with focused traditions and innovative initiatives. Strong community support from across the ensemble’s home region is driving the Orchestra forward with renewed energy, increasing the number of young people attending concerts, and bringing fresh attention to the Orchestra’s legendary sound and committed programming — including programming that regularly juxtaposes older and newer musical works in standard concerts and festival settings, including annual opera presentations.

As The Cleveland Orchestra looks to the future, it strives to be build community through music, removing barriers to participation, nurturing the next generation of musicians and audience members, and harnessing the life-changing power of music to make the world a better place.
